The team challenge sets I have bought from pitsco have the ~300 parts
variety. It sounds worse than it is though as the parts you really need are
all there and Robolab is included.  According to peeron there was an update
in 2003 that has the 828 parts and the pitsco webpage sasys more than 800,
so I guess they have increased the number of parts in that kit. Be sure to
get the one with Robolab. (although if you watch ebay you can get the
mindstorms kit very cheap - sometimes it goes for too much though but I got
my 2nd sons kit for $80!)

Sorry about the mistake!

The Mindstorms kit has far more elements (718 vs 215) but most of
those parts are small lego bricks (which are still nice to have).

I just brought up a page that seems to suggest the Team
Challenge set has over 800 pieces.  If that's correct, the
parts are very close.

There are some other sets that have different parts.  Make
sure you get something with 700+ pieces.

(...) Hi, Larry That sounds more like the #9786 Robo Technology Set for Schools. The major difference is that the proper #9794 Team Challenge Set for Schools (828 parts) has two light sensors compared to only one in the Mindstorms RIS 2.0 set. The (...)
