Neat. But the images are too large for me to view (dial-up connection). Any
chance of some (much) smaller pics?

I'd also appreciate suggestions on whether there's a
better studless construction method for hopper assemblies.

I'm not sure. My first hopper (and still one that feeds well) is studless,
using the smooth side of a series of studless beams for the floor, and making
the walls more of an open framework (a studless beam parallel to the flow of
balls in the hopper, then a 1-beam gap, then another arm, etc). I had two
problems: if two studless beams butted up to each other end-to-end on the floor,
a small dimple was formed by the curves at the ends that could trap one ball
(solution: tilt floor enough that this doesn't jam the whole hopper). And if the
wals "narrowed" or stepped in at any point, it would jam (solution: Visorak
"eyes" (I think they're called), or anything else to smooth the curve).
"Better" I seriously doubt - but at least it's alternative :-).

dropping about 20 balls down with a 99% success rate

We could have a GBC contest on this I suspect: "best (least likely to jam)
hopper design". After much work, I ended up with modules that did not jam, but
boy, it took some doing... and some refining in the middle of BrickFest, if I
recall.

Below are 5 pics of a studless version of a feed hopper I've been working on with some Technic elements out of 8436. But I have a slight problem which I need some advice on the best way to fix. The hopper itself is made up of some Technic LiftArm (...) (19 years ago, 30-Sep-05, to lugnet.robotics)
