Geoffrey,

This looks like a nice start.  I suspect it will get more refined as you
go.

I certainly hope so - I've got to make an acuqisition of some technic
bricks, gears, and axles first though.  I only have a fairly limited supply
atm available from 8485/8479, the latter which had a motor which went dead,
and so got turned into parts fodder for this project.  The Control Center is
an excellent permanent power source, as I don't need to worry about
batteries for the project.

Looking at the drive train, it looks like the final speed is about .3
rotations per
second.  If you want to speed things up, you should be able to remove one
of the
axles that have both an 8 & 24 tooth gear.  That would bring the speed to
about 1
rotation per second.

That should be possible, although what I really want to do is eliminate the
40t gear, so as to be able to use it elsewhere.  I will see what I can do
about bringing the rotation speed up a bit, although it's more a problem of
getting the basketballs to pop out than anything else.

Also I suspect as you continue, you'll learn a lot about what does and
what doesn't
work.  You shouldn't be afraid to take what you've learned, scrap the
design, and
start over.  That will allow you to remove the weak links that you
discover as you
go.

Yep - one acuqisition I do want to make is a Mindstorms kit, although on a
limited budget such as mine I don't see it happening 'soon' unless sales in
my store happen, or I come into some money.  *grins*

Cheers ...

Geoffrey Hyde
