A company in the UK makes electronically controlled proportional air valves
suitable for use in pneumatic robots. I've contacted them and they say that
they should be quite able to switch rapidly on 9V (though ideally, 5V) DC power,
that handling 50-100 psi is no problem, and that they sell to small hobbyists
all over the world and have strived to keep shipping costs down.
They also sell some other interesting items, such as a stretch sensor. And all
these items seem pretty reasonably priced.

I'm not yet at a point where I can play much with pneumatics yet, but I know
some of you are, so I thought you might find this interesting. If you give them
a try, please let us know what you find!
Best,
- Joe

| (...) I have not looked at the spec sheets, but the web page says 500 mA at 5 volts. The valve will probably draw 900 mA at 9 volts, which is past the current limit of an RCX motor port. Even without the current limit problem, you will have short (...) (20 years ago, 4-Sep-04, to lugnet.robotics)
