Yesterday I was helping my mother clean out part of the basement and I
saw the excersize bike that's been down there for years and years and
years and years and it occurred to me then that it had the perfect
mechanism for converting linear to cyclical in a pneumatic application.
It has two pedals connected by ("Technic-ally" speaking) beams to
vertical beams that serve as upper-body workout. When you pedal this
contraption, the handles alternate back and forth. They don't move up or
down hardly at all and it struck me (okay, so to me it was a flash of
inspiration. You veteran pneumaniacs probably are sighing at yet another
rehash of a truly elementary principle) that this horizontal motion
would be perfect for a pneumatic vehicle. So today I threw together a
rough CAD of it to give y'all the idea. ('rough' is the operative word

| (...) Hi Bauchaille, I'd guess that you envision hooking the pistons to the top of each handlebar, along with switches that make the pistons altername from open to closed and back. This would indeed make the pulleys turn. The trick here is the fact (...) (21 years ago, 11-Jul-03, to lugnet.robotics)
