Let me see if I've got this right.  The RCX has an operating system in a ROM.
This controls the basic I/O, timer, hardware details and communications.  It
also upon first start, loads another program from the PC - this is the
Firmware we're talking about.  It is loaded into the 32K RAM and it runs the
programs that the user writes.
Now - it is possible to write an alternate OS - in H8 code(?) - that will do
the same thing.  This is what legOS is. (?)
