Great!!!!!!!!!!!!
It works.
Now I have two angle sensors (8456 & 8480) :-)))))))))))))))))))))

BTW, this is how it works:
The led inside is *ON* only when it is under one of the eight holes.
It has a (presumably 10K, since I read 523 in raw mode) current-limiting
resistor.
So the light/fiber gizmo is equivalent to a touch-sensor that is activated
eight time per rotation (the resistance of the forward-biased led is very
low).
Obviously, it works even if the input is set in "switch mode", the led will
glow lightly (the pull-up current is small). Alas, it seems to me that the
sampling is more accurate.

Thanks for your discovery!

Several list members have asked for instructions on making a simple
rotation sensor using the standard Mindstorms light sensor coupled to the
light / fiber optic gizmo that comes in the "Extreme Creatures" add-on set.

I might not have read your goal right.  I might be missing somthing.  I was
able to connect the light/fiber gizmo up to the input port.  Every time the
axel spun 1/8 of a turn i would recieve a 79 value.  The light would light
and it works great.  I am able to sense 1/8ths of a turn without a light
sensor and using just one input port.

is this already well known?
