For those of us on this list that follow the FIRST LEGO League, either as a
coach or participant, the 2002 registration is now open, accessible from
www.usfirst.org.
They are charging $150 per team registration "up to 10 students", and $50
for the competition playing field and parts. But the hook is that each team
can only order one playing field. So, effectively, it is $200 a team. I
hope this revenue model works for them, as they have clearly struggled with
it in the past.
I also note that they are avoiding the LEGO website entirely. This may be a
good thing.
If you have never heard of this program, and are an adult Mindstorms fan, I
highly recommend you start and coach a team. You won't have any trouble
finding kids interested.
