(...) Lego used to sell these - I forget exactly which set(s). If I remember correctly they were about 2cm diameter with 45 degree segments alternating black / white, with a standard axle hole in the centre. You could get the same effect with a (...) (26 years ago, 5-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)
