MWSF: Lego my robotics, please

For a long time, many Mac users have been frustrated by an apparent lack of
support for working with Lego Mindstorm Robotics. However, there are many
Mac-friendly solutions to this problem and several of them are free,
according to Eric Heukeshoven, who along with his son, Hans, will be leading
a Macworld "Birds of a Feather" sessions on Lego Mindstorom Robotics and the
Mac.
The session will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9. The father and son team will
demonstrate various hardware and software products, both commercial and
free, that allow Mac users to interface with the Lego Mindstorms Robotics'
"brick." Programming tips, best places to buy supplies and where to find the
most useful information will all be topics for discussion.
"One of the beauties of this topic is its 'portability'," Heukeshoven told
MacCentral. "We will bring along a Lego Robotics brick and some of the
building blocks (sensors, motors, etc.) that can easily travel with us. We
also have two PowerBooks which has the software loaded for demonstration
purposes."
The Heukeshovens honed their Lego Mindstorms skills by participating in the
Logo Foundation's weeklong national Summer Institute program. The Lego-Mac
session will take place from 6-7:30 in room 303 at the Moscone Convention
Center in San Francisco.
