My latest Technic MOC or What to do with all those wild coloured bent beams

I have uploaded some pics of my latest Technic MOC - a Technic
model of an MTD Lawn Tractor (the real one also pictured).

brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=7122

The model is built to a scale of 1 stud = 2 inches. There is a 9 v battery
pack under the seat where the real battery would go. It drives a 9v gear
motor continuously. The motor drives the cutting blades and a
continuously variable transmission which has a ratio range from -1 to
+1. The output from the transmission goes through a 9:1 reduction
on the way to the rear wheel's differential. The transmission is
controlled by the red lever sticking out of the right rear wheel arch.
The cutting deck is driven via a pulley connected to a drive from the
gear motor. In true style, I had to arrange for a long drive belt which
winds its way around all the pulleys of the deck. I had to make this
drive belt. It is actually 19 1/2 inches of black elastic obtained from a
fabric store. The ends were cut with a brand new xacto knife blade
and then glued end to end with super glue. It is suprisingly strong.

The bodywork was the real challenge, particularly the engine compartment.
Trying to get that swoopy roundness you can see in the picture of the
real tractor was a lot of fun. And quite frankly, I gave up on trying to
imitate the headlights! But I managed to use a lot of the wild coloured
beams from the various cybermasher sets I've collected one way or
another.

Wow! You did a very good job there! I especially liked the way you created the hood (nice idea to use the ply-able tubes for the rounding). The model resembles the real thing very much. The only thing(s) I want to know: What did you do to the 24t (...) (23 years ago, 22-Sep-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) That's really nice! It's not often you see a model of a lawn-care equipment! Could you provide anymore details on your continuously variable transmission? Maybe a close-up pic? I sounds really interesting. Again you've proven that slight (...) (23 years ago, 22-Sep-01, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

(...) That model is absolutely stunning! It is one of the very few models I have seen that use a lot of the newer beams and liftarms rather than the older studded pieces. I really like this style actually; it makes the models stronger, look better (...) (23 years ago, 23-Sep-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Great work John. I wonder if you'll start a trend for Lego lawncare. (...) Really? I think Lugnet.Technic would have somthing to say about that. Steve (23 years ago, 23-Sep-01, to lugnet.robotics)

I've uploaded a few pics of my new MOC which digs into my supply of bent beams; (URL) haven't "motorized" this model yet, but that exercise shouldn't change the outline too much, just fill in some of the rather empty inside space! JB (23 years ago, 23-Oct-01, to lugnet.technic)
