Hello all,

I am aware of the fact that I should not send emails like these to the list,
but I guess this is urgent enough, so here it comes...

Last night I discovered our computer was infected with a mass mailing worm
virus (W32.Magistr.24876@mm).  This worm randomly picks email adresses from
where it may find them: address book files, .dbx files, .mbx files ...  It
then infects a randomly selected system file and attaches this to an e-mail
message.  This message is pretty weird, too: a randomly picked subject line
of at most 60 characters and a message body, also very randomly taken out of
a word document.  There may be a number of attachments: the infected file
and one or more of your own word documents.  The worst thing about this worm
is its payload: there are three kinds of it (see better descriptions on
antivirus sites, too) one that attempts to destroy your bios and cmos and
sectors of the primary HD ater one month of infection, your icons start to
run away on your desktop after the second month and after the third month,
the worm deletes the infected files.

I am sorry if anyone of you may have received such an e-mail from my
computer.  Of course I didn't want these e-mails to get sent, but it has
happened.  Because the selection of the e-mail addresses happens so
randomly, I am unsure wether anyone on this list actually has received
something or not (most presumably from this address:
rita.bisschop@easynet.be), but if you have, delete this e-mail immediately
and please do not open the strange attachment.

Hoping for your comprehension and sorry for all the trouble I may have
caused,

Simon Bogaert

PS: This virus is known since march, and still my very up to date Mcafee
Viruscan did not notice it!
PS: The payload only affects windoze 9x and ME.  Now I know again why I
wanted that Linux system so bad!
