sounds interesting. if you could find links or more info, it´d be great.
My plans for building a sculpting machine sofar is pretty simple and
straightforward. i am (or we are) basically trying to build a plotter
that pours material down on the floor, gypsum plaster, or foam plastic.
i am casting (in plastic) long cog-bars (is that the word in english..),
and using them as the rails for the plotter. I am also planning to cast
these bars in a rubber material, so that they can be displaced, curved,
by another motor or pulling device. The machine builds level by level,
in the same way as many rapid prototyping machines work (ex.
http://www.stratasys.com). As for the positioning of the "pen" i am
thinking of using a led, a light sensor and a serrated wheel between
them connected to the rail, so that i can get a pulse that the rcx can
use to keep track of where it is. Additionally, you´d need a zeoing
switch that the pen can touch now and then, so it doesnt lose track.
Some of the postings here seem to indicate that this is the way thar
rotation sensors work, but sofar i haven´t found an explanation (one
that i can understand) on how they work. Maybe someone has some links
that i haven´t discovered? Other plans include som sort of catepillar
cart that can smooth out areas based upon sensory input from itself or
other rcx:es, and having this work in conjunction with the "plotter".
So, it´s pretty much just plans for now, but given time, im getting
there. Any My interest as artist is to investigate the mechanics of
painting and sculpting.

| That is a very complex project. The rotation sensor will provide you with positioning information. It does lose counts sometimes, so it is best to reset the counter often. If you have not already seen this site, take a look at (URL) is a lot of (...) (24 years ago, 12-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)
