Re: I wish Lego made an "Anti-Backlash Gear"

(...) (I think we established that this is Newton centimeters - a force of between two and a half and five Newtons applied at a distance of one centimeter will cause the gear to slip...or half that at 2cm, a third at 3cm and so on). (...) That's (...) (24 years ago, 4-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Lubricating technic turntables

Good point, well taken, I'm glad at least 5L axle was produced! (...) (24 years ago, 4-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Lubricating technic turntables

(...) That's okay, I'm a purist too. I once spent several frustrating hours completely redesigning the drivetrain on one of my robots so I wouldn't have to trim down four 8L cross axles to 7L. However, when you consider lubricating a turntable (...) (24 years ago, 4-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Lubricating technic turntables

You got me pegged, it's a purism thing, I pride myself on never cutting or altering pieces, glueing or lubricating. Just work those pieces and they'll loosen up! Get'em... GRRRRR....Eric (...) (24 years ago, 4-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: I wish Lego made an "Anti-Backlash Gear"

(...) Far as I can tell, these are the gears used in the gearboxes in 8880, 8448, 8480, and prob'ly others. ROSCO (24 years ago, 4-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

Re: I wish Lego made an "Anti-Backlash Gear"

The CD-Rom does not explaiin how to use this piece, but in an earlier post I wrote: Ok, this is called a "Slip Gear" or "Torque Gear" It is used to prevent over rotation by means of an internal clutch, the 2.5 - 5.0 NCM I belive means the range of (...)   Re: NQC for Palm

(...) Of course on my Agenda Palmtop - it took little more than typing 'make' to port it. <smug grin> (...) So the Palm is big-endian? I didn't know that. Won't that also cause problems for NQC porting...does NQC run on any other big-endian (...) (24 years ago, 4-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: NQC for Palm

(...) I just did some measurements of heap usage for NQC, and it isn't quite as bad as I feared. Compiling a trivial program without including the standard API uses about 11K. If you include the standard API, this grows to about 64K. For a modest (...) (24 years ago, 4-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: I wish Lego made an "Anti-Backlash Gear"

(...) What set(s) include this "conical" gear? (24 years ago, 4-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

Re: I wish Lego made an "Anti-Backlash Gear"

It's not so much the "conical" gear that takes the backlash out of the setup that Bob Fay provided links to, but the ability to use the technic axles as torsion springs and keep the gear teeth in the train loaded at all times. That particular gear (...) (24 years ago, 4-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)
