You mean the 9-pin cable for the IR tower, right. Yes, you can use a much
longer cable. Get one with one female (holes) and one male (pins) connector,
and you should be OK. You have to use it on the computer end, because the
tower only accepts a very slim connector, like the one on the Lego supplied
cable.
