You could be right, I have to admit that I fiddled around with a couple of
things including the ClearSensorValue. A very quick further test suggests
that it isn't the ClearSensorValue but the combination of SetSensortype
followed by SetSensorMode which is causing the sensor value to reset.
Sorry for the confusion, & hope that this doesn't add to it,

ClearSensorValue does not reset the sensor state in this
mode. It will remain
in whatever state it was in until you turn the RCX off. You
can even stop the
program and restart it and it will still remember the last
state.
ClearSensorValue only seems to work for Rotation sensors
where it resets the
count to 0.
