I too Had this problem. I had 8 w/ a length of six. I had to substitute
these parts. I wonder why??
I have the 1.5 RCX also.

I've got an RIS 1.5 set, and I'm building the grabber arm from the

The instructions call for a total of 10 beams of length 6 (is there a
standard terminology for these things?), and my set only has 8. I'm
improvising using 4's and 2's, but I'm curious to know if it's an error
in the instructions, or maybe there are different versions of the 1.5
sets?

Interestingly, the instructions say that owners of 1.0 sets will need
an extra 2 of these beams. Have I somehow got a hybrid set? I
definitely have the 1.5 RCX (even though it has 1.0 on it) as it has no
power jack.
