I am pleased say that I have now been able to release Bot-Kit 1.0 which
provides an interface between MindStorms/Cybermaster and the Smalltalk
programming language. This is available for download from
http://www.object-arts.com/Bower/Bot-Kit. This link also contains more
information about what you can expect from the system.

The new version contains a fair few changes compared with the original beta
of few months back. A quick summary of the changes is as follows:

1. The new version comes with complete documentation including a number of
tutorials and a reference section. All of the classes and methods in the
package are commented so you can use these for reference information too.

2. I have added more support for the Cybermaster including the ability to
access the specialised features such as the on board tachometers associated
with each of the built-in motors. There is also a very straightforward
example class called CyberTruck to get you started. The documentation
includes a number of notes to guide Cybermaster owners so that they too can
follow the tutorials relatively easily.

3. I have chosen to simplify much of the Bot-Kit internal workings compared
with the beta version. I have removed the ability to use complex Smalltalk
expressions since this simplifies the overall code. I found when playing
around with the original version that I hardly ever used such expressions so
their complexity and the restrictions they placed on the number of available
global variables it did not seem warranted. I hope this meets with your
approval.

4. I have included two sample "BugBot" robots. One runs a collision
avoidance
program and the other is a very simplistic line follower. Both of these are
fully discussed within the documentation.

I hope that you find this new version to be worth the wait.

Best regards,

Andy Bower
