I was just in my local Toys'r'us and they have the Lego Znap #3552 set
marked down to $9.97.  It has:

    1 1:10 mindstorms motor - #5225  (Pitsco $16.25)
    1 small battery box     - #????
    1 short wire

They also have a larger Znap set marked down to $14.97 which has:

    1 1:10 mindstorms motor - #5225  (Pitsco $16.25)
    1 Battery box (6 x AA)  - #5515  (S @ H $10.99)
    1 Medium-length wire

My Toys'r'us is the one in Cambridge, MA  but i doubt their markdowns are
specific to a single store. Besides, I'm guessing there are a few more of
you here in Cambridge :-)  These sets were shelved across from the classic
legos, not with the Technic.

I bought several sets - just for the motors - they also have a strange
gearbox part that might come in useful for mounting motors in unusual
places.  ZNAPS can be found in rather battered boxes in just about every
Toy'R'Us outlet in the Dallas/FtWorth area...and yes, the prices are the
same everywhere.  The cheapest set was (IIRC) 67 cents!

The motors seem to be standard Mindstorms beasts - the battery boxes
are black - which makes a nice change from the yellow one we had from a
Lego Lighting set.

I liked the flexible drive shafts too - two standard Lego axles - joined
by a very stiff braided wire in a plastic sheath.  I hadn't seen those
anywhere else - so they were a pleasant suprise.  They are probably none
to efficient when bent but for things like robot arms, they could be
interesting.

Weird stuff this ZNAPS - it's obviously aimed at snagging the Knex/Construx
market - and the relative pro's and con's are interesting.  I think ZNAPS are
better at building 3D structures - and they are more compact.  Knex let you build
structures with more 45 degree angles - but at the price of having awkward
root-2 lengths relationships between their part sizes.  If I were in the
market for a Knex-like setup for my kid, ZNAPS would be a good choice because
of the Lego/Technics connection...but the amount of Knex in the toyroom already
comes close to the amount of Lego, Erectorset, Construx, Lincoln-Logs...and
those weird triangles and cubes they give to kids on British Airways transatlantic
flights that link together with things that look like Technics axles.  :-)
