I was really impressed by the software at first too, but as I played
with it, the next natural thing I wanted to do was start building
smarter robots that could use the on board sensors.
I couldn't find any way to use the onboard sensors or interact with
programs that might already be on the RCX. They seem to have
completely left that out.
I'm not exactly sure how you'd work with a program already on the RCX
anyway, since the Vision Command software always downloads some kind
of program into slot 5 and runs it. I'm not even sure why the decided
they needed to download a program, since the Vision Command just turns
motors on and off, and that can be done without running a program.
This seems to be a really big limitation. The camera is cool and the
software is neat, but I wanted to use it as an add-on for my RCX
programs, not as a replacement.
(I'd also much rather use the camera under Linux too, since I already
do most of my RCX programming on Linux with NQC, but that's another
issue...)

The Message is the number of the onscreen Vision Command Region that was triggered. Vision Command (...) (24 years ago, 23-Aug-00, to lugnet.robotics)
