Interesting problem! Be careful with the shopping carts though...the
wobbly wheel might skew your tests (every cart has at least one bad
wheel!), and the clerks might wonder why you're pushing a cart around
backwards. :)
Seriously, it might everything to do with geometry, namely in the way the
casters get loaded (the robot's center of gravity, the "caster" of the
weight on the, um, casters, etc etc). Moving them in or out, even by a
little bit, might make all the difference.
Just an informed guess here, too...

| Something else to think about is what racers call "unsprung weight." This is basically the weight of the car that is attached to the springs (the part that sits on the road and is connected to the car using springs/suspension components). You want (...)
