Hello all,
I'm not sure if this is the right area to post this to or not.
I've been working with my Mindsotrm set of late and have created a program
that will control and detect when two lego trains cross at a crosstrack.  My
program will stop one track and allow the other one to go thru before
starting up the "stopped" train.  Everything works fine (program, track
circuit isolation, trains, etc.)  The only problem I'm have is that the light
sensors I'm using CAN NOT DETECT the light from a LEGO Light brick.  I
initally started using a flash light but a flashlight is a non-LEGO and I
wanted a pure LEGO solution.  I have used a diode and created a small cicuirut
to supply it with power, but this again is a non-LEGO solution.  Has anyone out
there been messing around with these light sensors?

Upon doing some trial runs I find that the light sensor can not deter the
light from the light brick across the span of track that they are apart.  I
can not bring the light and closer to the sensor becuase it will obstruct the
train passing.  I could lower the variable in teh program to allow detection
and a lower %.  Currenlty it is at 60% and above will mean that their is light
and thus no train is passing.  However, in lowering the variable I will get
times when there is a train passing but it will not register.  What I need is
for the light brick to be brighter.  Any ideas?

Thanks
Ahui Herrera

Hi, First are you using a ligh sensor or an IR sensor? If it is an IR sensor: First what IR sensor are you using and what is it's range? Are you using a white lego piece on the other side so that it will reflect back nicely (or possibly cut a piece (...) (24 years ago, 19-Jul-00, to lugnet.robotics)

If you are using the light sensor that is included with the Mindstorms kit, are you isolating the red LED from the light sensor itself? You can get much better sensitivity from the light sensor if you cover up the red LED. Ralph Hempel has some info (...) (24 years ago, 19-Jul-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Ahui, you should be able to get this to work. I have done this for a distance of 10 dots. Look at (URL) follow the link to "Ferris Wheel" at the bottom, and go to the 5th picture "Bar Closed". Look at the double chair seat with the white and red (...) (24 years ago, 19-Jul-00, to lugnet.robotics)
