I'm sure it's doable but it would take quite a bit
of work. You would probably require a special
IDL compiler to create stubs and skels that
use the IR communication routines. Another way
to do it is to implement a socket layer. My brother
was talking about implementing sockets
for TinyVM (http://www.crazyrobots.com/tinyvmsite),
but I believe he lost interest.
To be honest, Java is not necessarily the best choice
for the implementation of CORBA. You might be able
to do it on top of legOS (though it may not be as fun).
Now, if we were talking about RMI and/or Jini, that's
a different story. Many Java enthusiasts would probably
tell you to forget about CORBA and implement Jini.
(I'm not too familiar with Jini technology yet).
In any case, any of these frameworks that would allow
you to install long-running servers in the RCX will require
some features to be added to TinyVM: garbage collection, strings, etc.
If anyone is interested in starting such projects, let
me know.

| Hi, I should probably have clarified. I'm not intending on using Java to implement a CORBA ORB, I think that would be way too costly, I was thinking at a more granular level of coding. Probably NQC and/or assembly. I know JINI interfaces exist, but (...) (25 years ago, 20-Apr-00, to lugnet.robotics)
