Good morning.
I've encountered a strange problem, and I'd like to
see if you can help me figure out the possible causes.
For about a week now the RIS 1.5 software I have
installed on my Win95 machine hasn't been working.
Every time I download the firmware using the RIS software,
communication with the RCX is not possible -- the
RCX does not respond. I get messages to the effect
that the "RCX is not in range or not switched on" or
"IR communication failure."
It's not a battery or range problem, for the following
reasons:
- I have put new batteries in both the IR transceiver
and the RCX.
- I have taken the batteries out for several minutes,
and retried these tests.
- I have tried all kinds of ranges, and lighting conditions.
- If I download the RIS firmware using nqc -firmware or
firmdl, the RIS software is able to communicate with
the RCX!
- Unofficial firmware replacements do work.
Because of the above, it looks like a hardware problem
is ruled out. However, I've reinstalled the RIS software
several times, without much luck. I even uninstalled
software I've installed in the last few days.
Has anybody else encountered a similar problem?
Any ideas as to what the problem might be?
Regards,
--Jose
