I have released a new version of TinyVM (the VM
that runs Java in the RCX). Christophe Vanhecke
was kind enough to provide a home for TinyVM at:
http://www.crazyrobots.com/tinyvmsite/index.html
The API documentation is available in the site, in
case you just want to take a look at the kinds of things
you can do with TinyVM before downloading.
Note that TinyVM still hasn't been ported to Windows.
Here's a summary of the improvements in 0.1.1:
- A bit more usable firmware.
- Fixed a couple of criticial bugs.
- Added button APIs, among others.
- Ported TinyVM to JDK1.2 (thanks to Carlos Solorzano).
I'm also including a non-trivial example as part of this
release: a program that helps a Pathfinder-type of
robot learn to rotate by simply scanning its surroundings
using a light sensor. The program doesn't require any
special markings on the floor or anything like that. The
bot just needs to "look" around. The example is under
$TINYVM_HOME/examples/rotator.
Enjoy,
--Jose
