Sounds reaaly cool.

How do you communicate with the CyberMaster birck?
I have a RIS, but want to get a CyberMaster ro 'replace' the prick because I
want to control the robot remotely using RF. What exactly is the difference
between
communicating with the 2 bricks? I am intending to use the sources of SUN's
JavaOne demo
where they controlled a RCX with Java, but I want to use the CyberMaster brick
instead.

I just saw Cybermaster on sale in Migros stores in Switzerland for 149 CHF
(about 90$ and half the normal price).  I have already a RIS.
Beside the cybermaster unit itself, is the buy worthwhile for other parts ?

I bought CyberMaster instead of RIS (although I plan to buy a RIS this
Xmas) mainly because of the radio link (well and the price, too).

My initial projects dealt with PC processing and sending remote commands to
the robot, so the radio link seemed better than the IR-link.

So the CyberMaster is well suited for wide-range mobile robots (rovers?)
with "limited" self-logic (less RAM than RCX) or with the PC doing all the
logic and sending over the radio-link the actions to be taken. Some
projects will have a mix of the two: PC doing the main procs and the bot
doing basic primary reaction to sensor related logic.

One example is my CyberMaster+WirelessCam+PC-robotic-vision project.
The "vision" processing will be done remotely (PC side) through PC
software, sending over radio the actions to the CyberMaster. A "local"
(pBrick side) basic task will handle basic/fast reactions to any touch
sensor signal, much like any normal wall avoider bot.

..now, if only X10 Europe had any of the XCam models :(

IIRC, the Java demo was made for multiple RCXes in a battle situatuion. If you are just going to control the Cybermaster, not many of them, then I would use something else. Andy (...) (25 years ago, 7-Feb-00, to lugnet.robotics)
