Now you can use your RCX to control LEGO Power Functions. That's right the RCX can act as a PF remote control but it can do something that the PF remote can't do yet. (...) Just buy a USB to Serial adaptor and use your Serial Tower if you can't find a USB Tower for sale anywhere. They're not very expensive and work fine. Many new desktop PC's done have serial ports these days. Dom (18 years ago, 23-Jan-08, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

If your IR tower still functions, and it's just a matter of not having a serial port, the simplest solution would be to just buy an adapter that will allow you to hook up a serial device to a USB port. I don't know if Radio Shack will deliver (...) (18 years ago, 23-Jan-08, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)
