Re: NXT What Programming Languages + Open source?

A few corrections/updates to my original post atnews:000501c701ed$...desktop... I was wrong in stating BricxCC does not support reading of all three NXT motor encoders. My comment was based on the BRicxCC "Wathcing the brick window; this is a legacy (...) (19 years ago, 10-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NXT Bluetooth "Dongle" or "Adapter"?

(...) In my experience (and usage), "dongle" is usually used as a derisive or semi-derisive term, much in the way "wall wart" is used to describe a power transformer with integrated plugs. Matt (19 years ago, 9-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics.nxt)

Teaching NXT - Engineers without Boarders

I started teaching an NXT Robotics Club at the High School level today. In tandem with the Engineers without Boarders Challenge. I must say how impressed I am with the new NXT! The documentation, the parts found in the kit and the up and running (...) (19 years ago, 9-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics.nxt, lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: NXT Bluetooth "Dongle" or "Adapter"?

(...) Well that explains the presence of "adapter/dongle" on the Internet. Thanks for passing along the information! - David (19 years ago, 8-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics.nxt)

Re: NXT Bluetooth "Dongle" or "Adapter"?

In article <J8Ds7J.73z@lugnet.com>, David J. Perdue <david@davidjperdue.com> writes (...) Essentially they are synonyms. Formal: TDK manufacture Bluetooth adapters. Informal: I have a Bluetooth dongle sticking out of the side of my laptop. "Dongle" (...) (19 years ago, 8-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics.nxt)

  Re: Ada on NXT

(...) Given the CPU power and hardware of the NXT, I see no reason why, say, the GNU ADA compiler couldn't be ported directly to output ARM assembler to run directly on the NXT (and then be used via a replacement firmware along with GCC, G++ etc) (19 years ago, 8-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Ada on NXT

On the RCX there was an Ada implementation, which worked by translating Ada to NQC. Does anyone know if there are any plans to make Ada available on NXT, perhaps in a similar manner? Thanks Andrew (19 years ago, 7-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  NXT Bluetooth "Dongle" or "Adapter"?

I've noticed that the MindStorms User Guide in the NXT set and official Lego websites refer to using a Bluetooth "dongle" for your computer, but Bluetooth "adapter" is also commonly used elsewhere. In fact, I'm using the DBT-120 adapter, which is an (...) (19 years ago, 7-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics.nxt)

RE: NXT What Programming Languages + Open source?

This is in reply to the post by John Hansen on Wednesday, November 01. It's difficult to compare the end user value of an assembler language programming environment (NBC) vs a high level C programming language like Robot C. There are several (...) (19 years ago, 6-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NXT What Programming Languages + Open source?

(...) Hi Nick, You can control the NXT over Bluetooth using Java with iCommand: www.lejos.org We are working on a full blown JVM for replacement firmware on the NXT. - Brian (19 years ago, 2-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Problem with rcx communication

(...) 1. If you can no longer download the original firmware with RIS software: a. First check your tower with another RCX. b. If the tower isn't the problem, than it seems that your IR-channel has suffered! 2. The RCX normally shuts down with weak (...) (19 years ago, 2-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NXT What Programming Languages + Open source?

Ross, Have you been able to reproduce this under Cygwin? I tried about six months ago but kept hitting some errors in building the toolchain. I used a variety of build scripts, even trying to reproduce the GNU ARM toolchain but with very similar (...) (19 years ago, 2-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Open source?

(...) Who cares? Years ago, we saw many IDEs for the RCX come and go. I suspect for most people, it was a chance to play with programming and LEGO at the same time. A challenge to one's self to see if it "can be done". I doubt any of these were (...) (19 years ago, 2-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NXT What Programming Languages + Open source?

Re: NXT What Programming Languages + Open source?
