I realize I am replying a little late to this but I recently picked up this
set as all sets were on sale at my local Bradlees. Anyhow, I think I figured
out why the Rock Monster has such a big span between his fingers and thumb. I
used this to create "Severly Agitated Territorial Rock Monster." Although he
can hold a crystal, the real thing my rock monster likes to do is pick up an
unsuspecting Rock Raider by the feet or waist and slam him repeatedly into the
ground for invading his territory. If you ever played the original tomb
raider video game. This huge monster at the end likes to grab you by the arms
or feet and flip you back and forth into the ground like you are a wet rag.
Same sick idea, but, a monster has to defend his territory. Also, there is a
hole deep into his arm. So I made "Angry Boulder Throwing Rock Monster". You
can take a pen spring, stretch it out and insert it in there. Then put a
brick in his hand compressing the spring. Release the brick to let it fly.
