Has no one done a revue on the bar code multiset truck?  Its a pretty pricey
Technic kit, but it does look interesting.
My questions:
How many motors?

One.

Can the controller steer as well as drive?

The controller has only one motor output, as well as one input for touch
sensor. Thesedays I use it solely as a fancy battery box.

What triggers the "grabber" than can be used?

A touch sensor. You can see it from the picture in the S@H catalog.

Other useful abilities?

You get a decent mix of parts, mostly black and green. You get two "clutch
gears" and several flex cables. (However, as a part source it is not a good
deal, because you have to pay for that fancy battery box.)

The models contain clever mechanisms, in order to accomplish all the different
tasks with only one motor and one input. I learned a lot from these models,
and have applied several of these mechanisms in my RCX projects.

(An interesting observation: In both 8479 and 8480 we see all these clever
mechanisms to overload a single motor. I guess gears and axles are cheaper
than motors.)

Hao-yang Wang

(...) Hi Dennis One of the interesting but not clearly documented parts of the Code pilot Brick is the little white star wheel optical activator. you can program the brick to "activate" when the star wheel is turned. One way would be to set it to (...) (25 years ago, 26-Sep-99, to lugnet.reviews)

(...) I just noticed the flex cables in the picture of this set in the latest Shop at Home catalog. They look like bicycle brake cables. That could be really useful for transferring motor power to other parts of a model or robot. And probably more (...) (25 years ago, 10-Oct-99, to lugnet.reviews, lugnet.robotics)
