The battle of Sevigny was particularly brutal. In the end the battlefield was a littered field of mayhem and carnage. Among the fallen, prisoners are taken including an unconscious king’s knight.
Now trundling along a rutted, craggy road, the knight awakens. Wounded and cramped in the prison cart, he wonders what will be his fate at the hands of the ill-reputed Dragon Horde army.
But assistance awaits just a short distance down the road as a determined king’s footman waits hidden, ready to spring a one-man ambush on the unsuspecting (and unescorted) prison cart!

As a castle fan, I’m very excited about the Kingdoms theme. While I’m definitely planning to try one or two of the medium/larger sets, I just had to get my feet wet with this set!

The 7949 set is a straightforward model of a simple two-wheeled carriage with a prison cage. There’s just enough space for a driver to sit and the cage is small enough that the unfortunate prisoner is going to have to stand. The model is similar to the 6055 Prisoner Convoy or 6042 Dungeon Hunters sets (though the cage on this set is smaller than either of those).
Kit comes with three figures (two red knights and one green) and a horse.

Notable accessories include the bucket helm (probably my most favorite new element), new painted shields, and dark grey horse head armor with a gold ‘unicorn’ horn. This head armor features a horizontal hole (instead of a clip) and I’m curious (but doubtful) if this is a first-time appearance for this element. Minifigs are further equipped with two standard swords (one silver, one dark grey), brown torch sconce and a black spear. There’s an obvious absence of a saddle (in case the horse should be used for cavalry purposes) or even a 1x2 black plate to complete the horse when it’s not pulling the cart.

With the standard minifigure value coming in at between $2.50 and $3.00 (depending on the uniqueness of the bodyprint and/or accessories), this set is worth the retail price of $9.99 (though TRU charged me $10.99 for mine). As a matter of fact, considering the price of the exclusive ‘battle packs’ that cost about $15.00 for five figures, buying two of the 7949 set would be a better value (coming in around $20.00 for six figures and two horses). With two sets, builders will probably also be able to beef-up the cart a bit.

!!! 4x2ReVu Stats !!!
Rating: 6 out of 8 studs
Pros: Good value for parts and figures.
Cons: It’s a minor flaw, but the set really should have come with a saddle and 1x2 plate for the horse (hopefully this isn’t becoming a standard oversight with sets like this).
Walletwise: 50 pieces for $9.99. It’ll definitely be worth scooping up multiples at a discounted price.
