The nightmares have gotten worse. Images of a kingdom in smoking ruin, the
near complete destruction of all buildings and a sinister trusted adviser. Now
the visions include images of a people twisted into misshapen , mindless
monsters seeking his doom. Through it all there is still an ever-present object
that seems to be the key to salvation, the vision of a glowing dagger at an
impossible-to-reach altar.
I originally picked up this set for a semi-inexpensive introduction to the
series, I plan to pick up the larger 7573 Battle of Alamut set, but since the
princess doesnt come with that one I figured Id start with this one. Im
pleased with this set and it makes a good introduction to a new style of
structures (domed with mosque/peaked arches).
This set includes a two level structure representing a portion of a market
square. The structure is comprised of a first level columned wall and room,
stairs at one end of the wall lead to a second level walkway (overlooking the
wall and square) that leads to the second story domed-roof enclosure with a
trapdoor and breakaway balcony. Aside from the structure, there is a bench,
cart, and hitching posts for a camel. Figures include Dastan (the hero),
Princess Tamina, Asoka (an armored guard), the market stall owner and my first
camel! Theres a great assortment of accessories including a bunch of apples
and cherries, two fish, a poultry drumstick, three gems, two swords, spear, two
knives and the dagger of time (pretty cool looking almost wavy dagger).
As mentioned, I originally picked this up for the figures but its turned out to
be a very good set. Its a great representation of a marketplace (with awnings,
vendor, fruit, etc.) that includes LOTS of basic building bricks (mainly 2x2 L
bricks). I can rarely come up with decent alternate models for building
structures (much less something with less than 300 pieces), but I may take a
shot with this set.
New elements (to me at least) include the camel, the 1x3x2 half peaked-arch
elements (they probably appear in the Taj Majal set, though), the arab headgear
(not really a turban but a little closer to a keffiyeh--these have probably
appeared in Indiana Jones sets before), the guards peaked helmet and the
quarter-dome elements. Also, Ive never seen the old helmet plumes (in
trans-orange) used for fire elements before (kinda cool!).
Im not sure its worth the $29.99 retail price, but catch this at a discounted
$25 or less and Id say its worth picking up.

Rating: Five out of eight studs.
Thumbs up for: Great figs for an Arabic theme, good accessories, good portion
of basic building bricks (a few more plates would have added that much more to
building possibilities, though). Thumbs down on: No complaints. If youve
got the bucks and youre used to current Lego prices, you wont be let down.
