It's pretty easy to keep small images down to 1 or 2 KB each (or even less) if care is taken. Many of the LUGNET toolbar icons (...) Setting up a secondary new box as *.lugnet.org is definitely easier and less problematic than setting it up as *.beta.lugnet.com in the near-term, because of various DNS issues.
