Hi Dave,
Can't answer your question about webcounters, but to do the text thing I think
the easiest way is to put the 3 items in a table. One row, three columns. For
the middle cell, set the ALIGN property to 'center' and the VALIGN property to
'middle'.
Something like this:
<table>
<tr>
<td><img src="URL for picture"></td>
<td align="center" valign="middle">Your centered text here</td>
<td><img src="URL for picture"></td>
</tr>
</table>
