wrap at all, but rather it extends the width of the table cell in which the
text is displayed.

Whoa, say that again?  Do you mean that it dynamically expands the width of
the textbox as you type past character 80?  Does it refresh the browser's
window while doing this?  Does it appear any different to you the user than
it did before?
