Hi Jason,

Now that you mention it, I'm much in the same boat (forgive the pun) when it
comes to the West Indies (ironic as my father is from Trinidad & Tobago). If
you're looking for more general overviews of war at sea in the French
Revolutionary and Napoleonic eras, I suggest the classic 'Nelson and His
Captains' by Ludvic Kennedy as a starter -- its old and seems to be a loud
mouthpiece of the Nelson myth, but it's interesting nonetheless. Richard
Woodman's 'The Sea Warriors' is quite interesting too -- he's compiled quite
an account of actions across the period, including, if I recall correctly, a
number of Caribbean actions.

Other than those sorts of surveys, I think I'm going to have to check the
library. Can't say I've seen any books on that specific topic on the
bookstore shelves here (Ontario, Canada) but then that's not much of a
standard... Ah, the only other types of books you might check are British
military histories of the French Revolutionary War -- they anything in a
general overview of experience at the time might have something for you.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I'll pass on word if I actually find
something helpful! Good look with your research!

Lately I've been researching my family history and I've been trying to find
out more about an ancestor who served with the 15th Regiment of Foot in the
British West Indies at the end of the 18th Century particularly during the
British take over of Martinique and Guadalupe in 1794.  This has led me to
realize that I don't know much about what happened in that period of the
world during that time, beyond what I've read about in novels like the
Hornblower series.  Since that's where the "traditional" pirates lurked, I
thought that some people here might have some advice for some good books on
the subject.  Can anyone help me out?
