I now kind of like an inverse slope V!
Ooh yeah, that's the one, baby. I'm using the brown lance connected to brown
paddle with grey technic pin; some tan or brown pins would be nice.
A wacky idea: since the rower is holding the upright stem of the lance, I
put the rower on a turntable. This makes him less likely to lose grip, by
moderating the tension on the minifig hand when the oar sticks. Otherwise it
doesn't help the minifig at all; I was thinking his torso needed to twist as
he pulls the oar back, but that's not possible.
oarlock: I was also trying a "1x2 plate with towel bar" plus two 1x1 plate
with clip, sticking up like bunny ears. The oar rests nicely on the towel
bar but tends to ride up over and slip out. If there were a cute little
U-shape bar that slipped onto the towel bar ends it would be a good oarlock.
Awesome--that V thing lets the rowers row real good! The rowers require a
3-stud spacing.
Now for the other hard part: steering oar! This ship predates the use of a
rudder. The prow and stern were the only FUN building steps thus far, and
the decks are a puzzle. I can't wait to get back on land.
BTW Lindsay I had resolved last night to keep all my ratlines from now on,
instead of trading them all to you, but you've been so helpful...

| (...) Useful things, those. (...) If you have the space, two 1x2 45-deg slopes work well, and make a 1x2 v-shaped opening. Alternately, a 1x4x1 arch also makes a decent oarlock. But if you need a smaller hole or tighter concentration, 1x1 gaps are (...) (23 years ago, 26-Oct-01, to lugnet.pirates)
