There was a good deal of discussion in the admin threads before this
newsgroup was created, about what kind of subjects it might address, and
whether they were more properly housed elsewhere or not. Many people made
good arguments for various points of view.
Certain subjects, we know from experience, are likely to degenerate into
emotionally loaded, heated debates - these include gay-related political and
religious subjects like same sex marriage and references to homosexuality in
the bible.
I would really, really hate to see this newsgroup degenerate into another
place for gay vs straight arguments like weve seen previously in
o-t-debate. That would completely destroy the usefulness of this group as
safe space.
So, can I *request* - on a purely personal level since I have no official
standing of any kind here - that everyone has the courtesy to delay posting
predictably-divisive subjects until weve had a chance to do a little
community development?
I anticipate that someone will cry censorship at this point. Its not.
Its a request for your consideration.
Thanks

Makes sense in a kind of feel it out sort of way. What I am afraid of is
that there will be a bunch of anti-LGBT people who post here wanting to start
trouble. I am pretty sure this applies:

To tell you the thruth, this newsgroup many need a month or two before many
LGBT people actually feel comfortable posting here because of this whole
debate. Oh well.

Im with Alfred here--this NG is going to be like a lightning rod for those that
want to prove a point--Oh look, an article about the badness of homosexuality
or look, another dumb law excluding homosexuals from partaking in the same
liberties and freedoms as everyone else--these issues were more appropos for
o.t-d, which is where I believe these type of discussions should be (my first
dissent with Todd on any given subject).
Anyone with a grudge, morally otherwise, against this LGTB group or homosexuals
in general, will probably post all sorts of wonderful articles and such relating
to their POV.
Eh, hope people have thick skins in here, as those of us who post lots in o.t-d
have found out.
