I'll leave that up to the others to answer, but anything's cool with me.

I might, but not sure yet. I'm sure you'll draw interest from the few people
in SA, plus the Austin folks, as they're relatively close.

I really don't know, but I'm only the first to reply. Wait for the others to
respond.

Certainly! There really isn't a formal structure to TexLUG, and this seems
to be working fine so far. All it really takes is one or two persons to take
the lead in organizing and arranging a meeting. If you've got that, then
it's easy for people to show up and participate.
I can help out by making annoucements on the TexLUG website. Also, there's
the email list that you can use.

This has been discussed in the past, and I believe the consensus was that
it's really not preferable. I think it's okay with some people, but then
others like our meetings to be small and intimate, without the hassle of
crowd control.
Of course we had a semi-public session at our last fall meeting, and things
went well. We opened the doors to the NI employees and their families, plus
some of the robotics classes. We held this viewing on Sunday for a few
hours. This went really well, and is a good compromise in comparison to a
public "open door" meeting.

One suggestion would be to have a one-day only meeting. It's entirely up to
you, but you may want to "test the waters" first and see how it goes. When
we started our big TexLUG meetings they were only one day.
Also, you may discover many new faces pop up when you make the annoucement.
In my experience of organizing these meetings, there are many locals who
will come, but are hesitant about travelling out of town for a meeting.
Anyway, this sounds great, Chris! Thanks for your interest. In the grand
scheme of things, given our geographical separation, it would be ideal to
have TexLUG sub-groups (i.e. San Antonio, Austin, Houston, DFW, etc.) that
met regularly. The problem is that there hasn't been enough interest to make
that feasible, but with the appearance of new people to the group, such as
yourself, I think we're heading in that direction!
Good luck, and please let me know if I can help.
thanks,
TJ
