Unfortunately, there has not been a large response with people committing to
participate in the BrickHeap Wars competition for next Saturday's SMART meeting.
So instead, we'll do a simpler variation of the competition idea as a
mini-challenge.

The meeting will still be at DigiPen, we'll get together at 2pm in the
Michelangelo room.

Mini-challenge for January 31st SMART meeting:

Build a robot that can transport four objects of your choosing along a rough
LEGO terrain. The terrain will be made by using the large gray baseplates, with
random LEGO pieces either attached to or just sitting on them. They will be
assembled in a connected chain, with a definite starting point and ending point.
There will be a black line made of LEGO plates and bricks though the middle of
each baseplate, either going straight or bending 90-degrees, at random. The
first and last baseplates will be empty except for a 1/2 length black line. Your
robot should pick up the objects at one end, and deliver them to the other end.

Here's a rough sketch of what the track might look like:

The red, green and blue splotches represent the random LEGO pieces on the
baseplates. These might not all be firmly attached, but the highest 'cliff' that
will need to be dealt with is one LEGO brick at a time, though a stair-step of
consecutive bricks might exist, this not being higher than 5 or 6 bricks total.

Have fun! Looking forward to seeing what people will be able to come up with!

(...) I have received a number of "regrets" from people unable to make it to the BrickHeap Wars competition on January 31st (noon to 5pm), but so far only know for sure that one person will be coming, and a "maybe part of the time" from a second (...)
