In the "Better late than never" department, here are pictures from the second
day of SMART's mini-crate contraption at Robothon 2004.

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=101431

The display was VERY popular! We had several thousand people come by to take a
look at our display during the two days we were there. The display was up and
running pretty much all day long, the only exceptions being for a short lunch
break when the (unusual for this time of year) Seattle sun came through the
windows above to shine on our display, and at the very end of the day when the
robots decided they wanted to quit fifteen minutes early!

Towards the end of the second day awards were handed out at Robothon, and our
display won the award for "Coolest Robot"(s)! We put the ribbons on the
stationary robots, since it was a little difficult to hang them on the mobile
ones, but all the robots together won the award.

I want to thank Doug Bell and Mark Kenworthy for bringing a fairly large number
of Lego robots to display. For the most part these were not demonstrated,
because we had so many people interested in the crate contraption. But we were
very glad to have them to show people some of the other things that Lego robots
can do. Thanks also to Patrick who showed his competition sumo robot for a
while.

Finally, I especially want to thank Gus Jansson for his two robots in the crate
contraption. Without the hard working, and very reliable mobile robots that he's
created, there wouldn't have been a contraption!

If you missed seeing this version of the crate contraption, I'll have some video
of it online soon. But you can also come to see a variation of it at the public
display day of NWBrickCon on October 31st. Or pay to attend NWBrickCon and see
it earlier without the crowds!

(...) ... (...) I'm looking forward to the video. From what I can see, the whole layout is on a white 4x8 board, right? Two stationary "Ball Lifting" robots, and two moble "transport" robots. One question. Does this robot: (URL) the "dump truck" by (...) (20 years ago, 13-Oct-04, to lugnet.org.us.smart)
