Greenberg Toy and Train shows are alot like a GAT show, a bunch of vendors set
up every were with train displays in the middle of it all. The shows here in
Atlanta (probally the same elsewhere) last two days Saturday and Sunday, with
a set up on Friday afternoon hopefully. The Friday setups make life much
easier.
As far as "easy money", GATS actually has a "contest" and you get paid
depending on how you place 400 - first, 300 - second, 200 - third 100- fourth.
With Greenberg there is no contest so many of the clubs will ask for a set
price. It's nice to get a little cash for the club, helps pay for tables,
copying flyers, gas , etc. What you ask for is really up to your club, I guess
it depends on how much work it is for you to set up and run the display for
two days (of course it's not like you're getting paid at a job) but a token
value in a way. I was actually reluctant to ask for anything at first, but
then you have to realize that the displays are a drawing force for getting
people into the shows. The show is making some money, so no reason why your
club shouldn't get a few dollars also. You're not going to make a living or
retire doing the train show circuit, but it's nice to get something.
And of course the biggest reward is seeing the reaction from the crowd, mainly
the kids! It's also nice to have enough room to run the trains the way they
were meant to be run, on nice big layouts with lots of track.
