Moc: Academy of Music —David Kohrman
I've added a new building to my town layout. Its modeled after the now demolished Academy of Music in Kalamazoo Michigan. The original was designed by Louis Sullivan himself and opened in 1883. It was torn down in 1967. My building is three stories (...) (23 years ago, 28-Jan-02, to lugnet.org.us.michlug, lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town, lugnet.announce.moc) !!

David & All, (...) Wow David! You really got the feeling right in terms of the real building and the LEGO version. It is neat to see the actual building and the history as well. Great rendition. : ) Scott S. -- (23 years ago, 28-Jan-02, to lugnet.town)

Re: Moc: Academy of Music —Jonathan Lopes
(...) I like it, a lot. I may 'borrow' the idea a little. There are some very nice details in there. I wanted a school for my layout & may use something like this as a starting point. very nice. Jonathan (23 years ago, 28-Jan-02, to lugnet.town)

Re: Moc: Academy of Music —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Whoa, that rocks. Any other Sullivan buildings out there in LEGOspace? (Sullivan was mentor to my hero, Frank...) Maybe we can get the inimitable J Lopes to take on doing the Flatiron building since he's close enough to get pics of the real (...) (23 years ago, 28-Jan-02, to lugnet.town)

Re: Moc: Academy of Music —Jonathan Lopes
(...) heh, chuckle. to take on doing the Flatiron (...) ah, my favorite building in NYC. I have enough gray bricks & plates, but over 800 windows....way out of my reach. Seriously, I am up for the challenge if you know anyone who would finance or (...) (23 years ago, 28-Jan-02, to lugnet.town)

Re: Moc: Academy of Music —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Na, I think you can get the key characteristics in 5-6 stories and no more than 8-10 windows long... Selective Compression is your friend. Or maybe you AREN'T inimitable... :-) (23 years ago, 28-Jan-02, to lugnet.town)

Re: Moc: Academy of Music —Jonathan Lopes
(...) heh. Well I know I am not inimitable, for sure. regarding my new 'friend' Selective Compression: I was always taught to watch out for people like Selective Compression. See on the surface, they are your friend, in this case watching my wallet. (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jan-02, to lugnet.town)

Re: Moc: Academy of Music —David Kohrman
If not the Flatiron how bout the Woolworth Building ;) Now THAT would be impressive, but probibly would not fit indoors. I looked at your Brickshelf gallery. You have some very nice buildings. David Kohrman Lugnet #1117 (23 years ago, 28-Jan-02, to lugnet.town)

Re: Moc: Academy of Music —David Kohrman
(...) I've had my eye on doing a Chicago Stock Exchange. I would need some major tan and brown brick stockpiles though. The Garrick Theatre Bldg would be another nice one. More realisticly I may try to do his other Kalamazoo commission, the (...) (23 years ago, 28-Jan-02, to lugnet.town)

Re: Moc: Academy of Music —Amy Hughes
(...) Very nice. Your model has a lot of the character of the original. It'll look great in the next GATS layout, if you're going to bring it. Amy (23 years ago, 28-Jan-02, to lugnet.town)

Re: Moc: Academy of Music —David Kohrman
(...) Thanks! This building is definately on the list of what I plan to bring to the next GATS. It should fit well into the "historic district" we had. David Kohrman Lugnet #1117 (23 years ago, 28-Jan-02, to lugnet.town)

Re: Moc: Academy of Music —Amy Hughes
(...) It'll fit well into downtown, which will have more "old" buildings than we've done before. Amy (23 years ago, 29-Jan-02, to lugnet.town)
