New McDonald's is 99.8% complete.   I need one door and it's finished.  Some
people may not like it because it's a little bit smaller; really it's not
much smaller but because of the Play Place the restaurant space is really
cut down.  I like it a lot, tho--Play Place looks sweet.

City Hall is about half done (the LDMI shipment arrived today!)  The three
main stories are finished except for a few windows which I don't have yet.
The roof and clock tower will be future work. (The clock dial will be 8-wide
hovertron disks; overall size is 2 baseplates--62 studs wide by 22-24 deep
in places.)  Like Jason, I'm pumped about this; I'll have photos up as soon
as I can get my hands on a real digital camera.

IHOP is holding steady--need roof parts!  I'll finish that soon after I get
back into town.

Regarding Chief Wawatam--I have some good reference photos and have ordered
some brickplates for it.  The original could hold 20 cars on 4 tracks; I was
planning on 2 tracks inside it, and of course we may want Steve's cars in
there, so I was planning on building it on 12x24 brickplates, with a final
size of about 26x100.  This doesn't lend itself to Larry's idea of it
scuttling around on hidden wheels... what do people think?  With two tracks
inside it would have to be at least 18 studs wide, and I'd like to leave a
little space in there and make the length proportionate to its width...  LMKWYT.

Talking with Steve R. last night when I went to pick up my buildings, I
passed on what an old-timer at the show said to me about our display--"It's
good, but not enough motion."  As we expand the size of our display--and
from what I've seen so far since the last show, I think we can expand
significantly--we're going to move beyond two loops and a monorail.  One
thing Steve and I talked about was a downtown trolley loop--whether we run
PCCs on it, trolleys, cable cars, whatever--on regular rail.  We need more
movement spread across our display to keep it truly interesting.  I'd
encourage everyone to think about how they could motorize stuff--even
details like Chris' radar.  Thoughts?

I will be out of town for the next 11 days and will catch up on posts when I
come back.  Try not to have any flame wars while I'm away--I don't want to
have to wade through them.  Oh wait!  We're in the #2 spot for traffic in
the past 7 days.  If we have a flame war we can overtake .trains--go for it
guys!!!

Peter

(...) Sounds cool.... (...) Looking forward to them. (...) Me likes my battery boxes.I am all for making more things move weather it be monorail different or what.A trolly downtown sounds good. (...) What fun would it be if we don't have one every (...) (23 years ago, 28-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)
