We had a great meeting yesterday! I had tables set up like an actual layout and
had all of my stuff there--some new buildings, but mostly stuff I put back
together after Syracuse GATS. I just don't have enough ideas to create all new
buildings every time and some of my finished work is pretty good and can be used
at more than one show, I think. Dave Amos brought has city block with several
buildings including a very excellent school built with Sand Red bricks. Our
layout needed a school and Dave's fits in nicely.
We should have some photos of the meeting soon.
I have not yet attempted to re-create your dam tunnel but I think the layout
really needs this--at least I liked it a lot at Syracuse GATS and I don't plan
to attempt anything more elaborate right away. We should have plenty of table
space at the Ithaca show next month to display some of your work, Nate. It was
decided NOT to have single tables anywhere on the layout so this will help to
accommodate buildings that have extensive parking areas, etc such as your post
office. I would really like to have your rental storage facility and your UHaul
building and trucks for next month's show--they will fit in nicely near our
trailer park/ water tower/ cemetery area I think.
Nate -- Anything you have at your parent's home that I can pick up for the show
I would be happy to have on the layout. Just give me permission to go into your
Lego room to borrow stuff--your family can supervise. So far, your SuperChief
train is the only one in LUCNY--if that is at your parents home I can pick that
up, too. Same for straight rails and switching rails. Even YODA sculpture
would be welcome as that makes a nice conversation piece for visitors on the
static display table.
It is my hope that we can have a portion of the layout for old west and turn of
the century buildings. John Rudy has come up with several nice buildings and
debuted an elevated trolley line. Ed thinks he will be able to work out the
electronics for a dedicated trolley line that might also serve well for his
BrickWorx cars and perhaps the Hogwarts Express. Any contributions by anyone
for old west and Harry Potter scenes would be welcome in this area. John Rudy
and I built a water tank for steam engines and a few other little things, but I
don't think I will attempt anything else for this part of town at this time.
I have some work to do yet in developing LUCNYville's industrial center, but the
bulk of it will be a grain elevator with several storage silos. I also have
preliminary ideas for a container yard but have not yet decided on any
structures for this. My plans for a train shed will be scrapped for now.
Our business meeting took 45 minutes or so, but a lot was discussed and details
ironed out for the upcoming show. For raffles, it was decided to offer up a New
4534 Railway Express. All visitors have to do is provide their name and
address. This raffle was chosen over other ideas due to simplicity for us. I
guess this means I have a bunch of small red buckets (three) and tall red
buckets (six) that I can offer to re-sell to other LUCNY members. Nate has
first pick since I offered to get him some a few weeks back unless he has gotten
his fill of them from Wal-Marts in Virginia.
We seem to be in good shape for Next month's show in Ithaca regarding Lego. The
Plexiglas barriers are still in development and I have handed off responsibility
for that to Peter, Ed, and John Barnes. Whatever they design I will be happy to
accommodate. If things go as planned, we will have the finished barriers for
the meeting on April 19 -- one week prior to the show on April 26 and 27.

June 20-22 & June 27-29 A Day out With Thomas the Tank Engine,Utica
Central Station, Utica
At this time, the Utica show--A Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine is on hold
for us. I have NOT registered for this event. So far, only Kevin, Nate, and
John Barnes can participate and I don't think that will be enough manpower for a
six-day event with huge crowds expected (thousands of people). The event
organizers would like to have a Lego layout; they have even asked for a Lego
play area. Even if we can get a K-8 or two from Lego or from another Lug/LTC,
we do not have the means to make the tables with part bins (rain gutters?) nor
to supervise it. My opinion on this event is that we should pass it up for now.
Unless things change and we get some new active members, we should not commit to
this. I will notify the event organizers of our situation and keep you all
informed.
November 1 & 2 Train Fair. State Fairgrounds, Syracuse. CNY National
Railroad Historical Society
No contact has yet been attempted to participate in this show. I think we
should wait until August or September before making any plans for this show.
If someone other than me would like to act as Show Coordinator for this event
that would be fine with me.

Greetings from the duct tape and plastic sheeting Capital of the
United States,
Thought I would post this tonight on the off chance somebody might
read the group before the meeting tomorrow. Wish I could be there
but alas 7hrs is a pretty long way to travel, even for LEGO!
I plan on being able to help with the following possible Train Shows:
June 20-22 & June 27-29 A Day out With Thomas the Tank Engine,Utica
Central Station, Utica
November 1 & 2 Train Fair. State Fairgrounds, Syracuse. CNY National
Railroad Historical Society
I will be able to lend all my track, baseplates, and anything else I
might create between now and then (I promise I will bring finished
things next time:-) ).
See you all later.
Nate
