OK, I went ahead and uploaded this new version as the icon.

What I did to make it look OK is I used what's called
a "dithered" color, a blend between two colors,
because the solid brown looked unrecognizable,
it was so dark that you couldn't see the edge lines
that gave the shape the necessary definition.
By using a dithered color of brown and grey,
I got something that can be *recognized* as a brown hat.
