Hello all,
It's always interesting to see what goes on here while I'm away. Well after
reading the insane amounts of posts from yesterday, I couldn't help but post one
myself.
I guess I am what could be termed a lurking member of NELUG. I joined in the very
beginning, and haven't done a thing with the group since, and I haven't actually
met anyone in person, though I have corresponded with a few through e-mail. I am
only 25 years old, and feel, in comparison with most members, quite young in this
group. This is not to say that you guys are old, just that you are older that me.
I work full time, and am working on a degree part time, so I don't have a lot of
time to be involved with the group, though I hope to change this soon.
Anyway, my point is (yeah I know, get on with it...) that age means nothing when
concerning Lego, period. I am able to see both sides of the argument (1) and I
agree with an age limit of 18. However, I see no reason that younger people may
join on a case-by-case basis. After reading everything that came before, it almost
seems like an issue of ego, not responsibility. Believe me I understand, I work at
Harvard, where there are 12 and 15 year olds earning masters degrees, it's hard to
deal with. But you deal with it, and life goes on, why rehash the same old
argument? As Jeff suggested, come up with a few different solutions, and bring
them to vote before the entire NELUG community, then we as a group can make an
official statement as to our decision. I feel very strongly that everyone in the
group should have a voice, even people like me, that don't take part much (or at
all).
Well, that's my $.02, hopefully it won't get me black-balled from a group I haven't
been to yet :)
Thanks for listening,
Mike Z.
(1) I guess being married helps with understanding arguments :)
