Aw, that sucks!  The third output is like a little dream feature they put
in-back when we got the 5600, everyone said, "Boy, this sucks!" and listed off
all the features they really wanted:  Modular motors, RC receiver, steering
servo, removable wheels, ability to integrate technic.  And when the 8475 came
out, it was like as if they'd cut and pasted all of our rtl posts into some
market requirement document and added even MORE to it by putting in that third
output.

Taking it out seems kinda stupid--adding a cheap thrill at the expensive of the
useful output.  As the author of that brickshelf page says, it's nothing kids
couldn't figure out on their own!

Has anyone actually seen this set in Toronto yet?

Yes, there were at least four at the Radio Shack in Square One, Mississauga.
