Are you actually programming the Spybot, or just controlling the motors? It's
possible using LEGO's Mindscript code to program the Spybot to look at a single
channel.
Or you could have a program running on the Spybot, and build in some error-check
protocal. The Spybot CAN read RCX messages.
Otherwise, you can use the Spybot software to set the controller ID.
