Hi folks,

I'm told my Chris that we need to get our acts together for rtlToronto12 and
13, which are November/December 2002 and March 2003 respectively.  This is
because 13 will be actively sponsored by the Toronto Public
Library-advertised in their flyers and newsletters.

So...

Trebuchets?
Vending Machines?
Something with flutterboards?

Start debate here...

Calum

Kids like action and fast moving vehicles (and we like 'Hey Mister...')--
We could either do something we've done before (a la block (marble)
gathering/stacking/whatever) which has been quite entertaining in the past
with lots of vehicles 'n such, like Chris 'n Steve's factory, which shot
blocks at a high velocity--kids'll love that one...)

Or a sumo/battlebot hybrid a la WWF, which again could use fast robots that
try to push one another off the table--the last sumo match at Guelph when we
had all 'bots on the table was quite entertaining...

And the vending systems will be there as well.

Specifically for me, if I were running a competition directed at kids, I'd
say the following--

'Bot must fit in a 8" cube, must *not* be geared down so it goes at a snails
pace (keep the action up)--and can have some sort of 'weapon', like a
'blade' (40 tooth gear) that could come in contact with another 'bot... and
we could take a vote (raise of hands) at the end of 3 min to see which 'bot
won according to the kids.  If a 'bot gets pushed off the table (or falls
off the table) it automatically loses the 'bout

Whether these 'bots would be autonomous (my vote) or driven via 8475 remote
(a la Battle'bot) is up to the masses.

My 2 cents.
